In this provocative history of contemporary debates over evolution, veteran journalist Tom Bethell depicts Darwin’s theory as a nineteenth-century idea past its prime, propped up by logical fallacies, bogus claims, and empirical evidence that is all but disintegrating under an onslaught of new scientific discoveries. Bethell presents a concise yet wide-ranging tour of
the flash points of modern evolutionary theory, investigating controversies over common descent, natural selection, the fossil record, biogeography, information theory, evolutionary psychology, artificial intelligence, and the growing intelligent design movement. Bethell’s account is enriched by his own personal encounters with of some our era’s leading scientists and thinkers, including Harvard biologists Stephen Jay Gould and Richard Lewontin; British paleontologist Colin Patterson; and renowned philosopher of science Karl Popper.
Darwin House of Cards A Journalist Odyssey Through the Darwin Debates Tom Bethell eBook
Criticisms of Darwin's theory have existed since it's inception and continue to the present day. Darwin himself gave compelling reasons for doubting his theory. This new book from Tom Bethell does an admirable job of covering most of the major issues in a concise and entertaining manner. For those who have never read many of the criticisms of Darwinism that have been published throughout the years this book serves as an excellent resource. You won't find references to Creationist sites because Bethell goes to the source and his arguments have nothing to do with religious texts. The only reason this book receives four stars from me and not five stars is because I was already familiar with much of the material, but for a new generation this books should serve as great starting place.Product details

Darwin House of Cards A Journalist Odyssey Through the Darwin Debates Tom Bethell eBook Reviews
Monumental!...A lucid and brilliant exposé of Darwinism's intellectual and logical weaknesses. A sweeping historical overview of the field, including a discussion of Intelligent Design. What I really enjoyed was the "no-holds-barred" debunking of many claims made by some of Darwin's apostles through the ages Huxley, Mayr, Gould, Wilson, Dawkins, and the rest. Just as Schleiermacher's works in the 18th and 19th centuries were a blow to Christianity, so this work is a very large finger pointing in the direction of rampant loss of faith in the religion of Darwinism. Highly recommended.
Bethell's a very good writer, in that it's easy to read. He's been involved in this debate since the 1970s, so he draws from a vast experience with the major players (eg, Gould, Lewontin, Dawkins), and the major arguments.
Great book that reviews why macro-evolution never happened and could never explain origins. Bethell writes candidly from a journalist's viewpoint.
Bought this for my dad for Christmas. He really enjoyed reading it, and said it was very well-written. WORLD Magazine book-of-the-year category winner, I believe.
Delightful read. It is beyond me how reasonable person can believe darwin’s fairytales.
Every apologetics Christian, or even those who are skeptical, should read this book. Great reading!
Bethell's book is worth a quick read. I enjoyed many of the tacit admissions that were quoted by some of the leading Darwinists, both contemporary and historically. His book is not solely dedicated to a focused scientific methodological endeavor to debunk darwinism, rather Bethell pursues a journalistic approach, demonstrating that logical conclusions afforded by science leaves the darwinistic theory bereft and barren of all but absurdity. Entertaining read.
